GLEN URQUHART HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS FAIR

Our S1-S6 careers event is on Thursday 19th November 2015 from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.

We would encourage as many pupils and parents to attend this event and make full use of this exciting opportunity.  In recent weeks, pupils have been working with Guidance Staff preparing questions and getting a brief insight into the Careers and Universities attending.  This event will be especially beneficial to pupils in S2 to S5 who will be making subject choices this year.

It is hoped the preparation work in class will allow our pupils to engage in discussion and find out as much information as possible about careers that interest them.  Following this, the work we do in school will help our young people make more informed subject choices working towards their career aspirations.

Developing the Young Workforce GUHS

Glen Urquhart High School Developing the Young Workforce is a major new initiative aimed at reducing unemployment amongst our young people. The Scottish Government has asked all schools to reflect and improve on how young people are prepared for the world of work.
At Glen Urquhart High School (GUHS) we value vocational education and qualifications in the same way that we value all our other courses and qualifications. Vocational experiences, provided by our local community, can offer our young people the opportunity to gain vital employability skills and experiences necessary to equip them for employment opportunities. These experiences also ensure that all our young people, whatever the barriers they face, have good access to these opportunities. During the next few months we plan to strengthen our current links with businesses in our community and establish new partnerships. We hope you can help us provide essential work relevant experiences for our young people.
Great Glen Consulting is working with GUHS on this exciting initiative. We will help GUHS develop stronger links with businesses in the area and ultimately help provide our young people with positive career pathways. Get involved and help to develop our local workforce.
• Visit the school and share your experience of work and business with a class
• Take part in the annual careers fair (in November each year)
• Take part in the 3rd year “Week of Work” which is being held from 22 – 26 February 2016 ( this will involve offering a workshop/talk - 1/2 day involvement)
• Provide a work experience placement during the annual work experience week
• Provide an extended work experience placement (this could be 1 or 2 days/week for a period of time during the school term)
Complete the online form, by Monday 26 October, to let us know which of these you would be interested in now or in the future. This is not a commitment to get involved but an expression of interest. If you can help we'll be back in touch with more information in early November.
